Get InvolvedMcMaster Chapter

Empowerment and human potential are not geographically specific. Although SEED’s work was born from our experiences overseas, it is our realization today that our work in Canada is just as important, if not more important, than our work overseas. We put great emphasis on our impact at home because we have witnessed people being transformed through their involvement with SEED.

As such, SEED also works to provide opportunities to gather knowledge, think critically, and make informed decisions for people at home in Canada in addition to those overseas. Through the Internship Program and local chapters, SEED empowers Canadians to make a difference in their own lives and improve the conditions of others.

Local Chapters

SEED Chapters are the key to creating opportunities for this self-realization, education, and action. They engage students, community members, and professionals to think critically about their own potential and their ability to contribute to their communities. Chapters also encourage Canadians to recognize and apply the principles of empowerment to the Scholarship program (which provides tools for empowerment to students overseas), thereby developing local empowerment while working for empowerment overseas.

The Internship Program

The Internship Program provides chances for Canadians to gain an understanding of overseas communities, contribute to these particular communities, and in doing so, understand their own potential. Furthermore, the interns complete research during their internship that is used to improve both local and overseas SEED programs.

This year, intern teams gathered information on sponsored children, as well as each school. In addition, they are doing research on the Kenyan and Zambian education systems to ameliorate the Scholarship Program, while working to set up a community empowerment project based on their own experiential learning and research. SEED recognizes the distinctive benefit that comes from the knowledge and experience that interns bring back with them.
