The Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program provides scholarships for students in Zambia and Kenya. These scholarships cover administrative and operating costs for primary schooling, thereby allowing children access to education. It is SEED’s hope that in addition to all the researched societal benefits of education, providing children with the opportunity to school will allow them to realize and harness their own human potential.
While funding for the program is gathered from private donors in Canada, the scholarships are managed and distributed by our local on-site partner institutions. In the past, communication has been an issue with these partner organizations, however this year SEED is working harder to improve the situation and is harnessing the interns as a new communication tool. In addition, SEED is working to ameliorate the research and information collected from overseas, so as to continue the development of the Scholarship Program in an informed, sensitive manner. We have learned from our shortcomings with the program and are working to improve.
Although some may criticize SEED for creating a dependency, we believe that we are not providing aid for people overseas; rather, our sponsors are instead investing in human potential. With the tools that students obtain from their formal primary education, they will be able to harness their own skills and dreams in order to improve their own conditions and those of others.
